Job Summary You will be the Optical Engineer for our Electro-Optical Systems team. Our team is responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing complex optical designs in EO systems, including military fire control, missile, and laser systems.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement innovative optical system concepts, layouts, and detailed designs.
Conduct research and development to improve manufacturing, integration, and alignment processes for EO systems.
Troubleshoot system hardware issues and apply knowledge of geometrical and physical optics to resolve problems.
Develop and maintain optical system designs using optical design codes such as CodeV.
Support subcontractor improvements, program cost reduction activities, and optics‑related manufacturability or cost savings initiatives.
Travel to optics suppliers to support program requirements and schedules.
Desired Skills
Knowledge of geometrical and physical optics, optical aberration theory.
Fluency with CodeV (preferred) or Zemax software for optical design, tolerance analysis, and performance optimization.
Familiarity with optical materials, including infrared materials.
Experience generating optics prescriptions for visible through long‑wave IR applications.
Knowledge of basic radiometry and Electro‑Optical analysis fundamentals.
Proficiency in using optical tooling, interferometers, and optical inspection techniques.
Working knowledge of lasers and coherent beam analysis.
Ability to communicate with mechanical designers and optics suppliers and assist with manufacturing issues.
Additional Information This position is located in Orlando, Florida.
MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN – This position requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a secret clearance.
Onsite Full‑time: The work will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
