Senior Safety Manager – Two Openings (Richmond, VA & McLean, VA) Our team is supporting a leading construction organization in expanding its safety department. We are currently hiring two Senior Safety Managers—one based in Richmond, VA, and one in McLean, VA. These individuals will play a key role in driving safety strategy, supporting multiple business units, and elevating overall safety culture across large-scale, complex projects.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned safety professional who is passionate about leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Overview The Senior Safety Manager will oversee safety performance across assigned business units, manage and mentor safety staff, and help shape corporate-level safety programs and initiatives. This role requires strong leadership, deep technical safety expertise, and the ability to influence at all levels of an organization.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development

Manage workloads for direct reports based on project needs; make staffing recommendations as needed.

Conduct performance reviews and evaluate training needs.

Mentor, train, and support Safety Managers and Safety Superintendents.

Assist with recruiting and retaining safety department talent.

Provide career development guidance and align team members with long‑term goals.

Safety Program Oversight

Evaluate the effectiveness of safety inspection systems and processes.

Identify project and business unit safety needs; develop safety goals and strategic initiatives.

Review hazard and incident data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions.

Lead crisis response, accident investigations, and OSHA or third‑party inspections.

Review corporate compliance with local, state, federal, and company safety requirements.

Project Support & Field Engagement

Support multiple projects and business units, ensuring consistent and thorough safety inspections.

Evaluate subcontractor performance and ensure adherence to safety expectations.

Lead preconstruction safety planning and subcontractor safety meetings.

Review and develop task analyses, site‑specific safety plans, and project documentation.

Provide safety training, toolbox talks, orientations, and large‑scale presentations.

Program & Policy Development

Develop and refine companywide safety policies and procedures.

Participate in the evaluation of safety technology, systems, and inspection tools.

Research and trial new safety equipment and innovations.

Serve as a technical resource to project teams and safety personnel.

Support client interviews, project pursuits, and subcontractor prequalifications.

Work closely with leadership, operations, project teams, and risk management.

Maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and industry peers.

Respond to safety‑related concerns from clients, tenants, and the public.

Support corporate initiatives, committees, and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction, or related field preferred.

CHST, CSP, or similar safety certification strongly preferred.

OSHA 30 (OSHA 500 preferred).

First Aid/CPR certification.

8+ years of construction safety experience (or 12+ years in safety‑related roles).

Strong understanding of high‑hazard environments (cranes, fall protection, scaffolds, excavation, electrical).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effective public speaker.

Ability to prioritize needs across multiple projects and geographic locations.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; able to work independently.

Comfortable working in varying site conditions and navigating ladders, stairs, uneven terrain.

Demonstrates strong leadership, professionalism, and commitment to safe work practices.

Base Pay Range $100,000.00/yr - $155,000.00/yr
