The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction (DOC) is recruiting for the position of Correctional Lieutenant at Corrigan Correctional Center in Montville. Position Highlights

These positions are full-time, 40 hours per week, and locate at Corrigan Correctional Center in Montville. Openings are available on first, second, and third shift, as determined by agency needs. All shifts follow a 5×3 schedule. Responsibilities

Assist in supervising a large complement of officers. Assume responsibility for custody and security of inmates, buildings, and grounds in the absence of a Captain. Assign staff to posts and conduct frequent inspections to evaluate officer performance. Provide effective oversight of posts and enforce rules and regulations. Respond to crisis situations in a supervisory capacity. Review and act upon reports submitted by officers and/or other staff. Oversee staff in performing sensitive investigations and/or tactical operations. Determine training needs for facility personnel and conduct training sessions. Assist in supervising inmate counts. Prepare and submit reports on operational, investigatory, and tactical activities. Conduct staff evaluations and chair disciplinary committees. May be responsible for transportation and guarding of inmates away from premises. May counsel inmates and staff, update post orders or unit directives. May physically restrain inmates or quell disturbances in emergencies. Perform related duties as required. About the Department

Four (4) years of correctional work experience. Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed

College training in corrections, behavioral sciences or criminal justice may substitute for the general experience, based on fifteen (15) semester hours equaling up to one (1) year of experience. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with SRG population. Experience with restrictive housing unit statuses/population. Experience with chronic discipline statuses/population. Experience with sentenced inmate populations. Experience with unsentenced inmate populations. Experience with medical/mental health population (BOS, MH‑5). Experience with elderly population (ADA accommodations). Experience in use of force in a celled environment (cell extractions, medical emergencies, chemical agent usage). Sound decision‑making ability. Conflict resolution skills. Special Requirements

Must possess a high school diploma or GED. May be required to possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license, a Commercial Driver’s License, or both. Physical Requirements

Must have good health, be free from disease or injury that impairs performance, and possess the physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance, and visual/auditory acuity required. A comprehensive medical examination and controlled‑substance screening may be required. Working Conditions
