ViewRay Systems, Inc. is a technology company seeking to provide the global radiation therapy community with advanced medical instruments incorporating the most capable and highest level of technology possible. Our belief is that only significant technological innovation can enable society to conquer disease. Our mission is to dare to change the paradigms of medicine and solve “impossible” technical problems to enable clinicians to effect a cure to save precious human lives, mitigate pain and suffering, and enhance quality of life. Our vision is to become the world’s leader in producing highly-effective innovative technology to cure cancer.
ViewRay Systems designs, manufactures, and markets the MRIdian A3i® radiation therapy system. The MRIdian A3i system is designed to treat patients with the smallest radiation therapy margins available with the highest patient throughput demonstrated for the most complicated cases.
The MRIdian A3i system treats by aligning the sharpest radiation therapy beam on the market to diagnostic quality magnetic resonance images (MRIs) of the patient, adapts the treatment plan to the reality of the patient, and then uses the real-time MRIs to control the beam and record real-time doses delivered to the patient.
If you are driven by a passion for innovation and want to be part of a team that is changing the world, we invite you to explore the opportunities available at ViewRay Systems.
Job Description
ViewRay is currently looking for an experienced, self‑motivated Senior Electrical Engineer who will share our passion for conquering cancer and help us develop our groundbreaking MRI‑guided Radiation Therapy system. The ideal candidate is an adept problem solver and leader that can work through technical challenges and employ pragmatic solutions. You will work closely with mechanical engineering, control systems, software engineering, and other teams to develop systems from concept through final release.
Key Responsibilities
Architect, design, and implement FPGA‑based systems for device control, motor control as well as data and signal processing applications.
Develop high‑performance RTL designs for a variety of FPGAs as well as system‑on‑chip (SoC) architectures.
Design and optimize device interfaces, including analog and digital interfaces, high‑speed serial links, and multi‑device synchronous systems.
Implement efficient digital signal processing algorithms in FPGA fabric.
Design optimized FPGA infrastructure for SW interface.
Write, review, and maintain RTL code (primarily VHDL) for complex designs.
Develop simulation test‑benches and conduct functional verification.
Perform timing analysis, optimization, and closure on Xilinx platforms.
System Integration
Collaborate with software, hardware, and systems engineers to define architecture requirements.
Implement and support high‑efficiency software interfaces, including integration with C/C++ applications.
Work with embedded and host‑side teams on seamless FPGA–software interaction.
Documentation & Technical Leadership
Produce clear, structured technical documentation, design specifications, and interface control documents.
Communicate effectively with internal teams, management, and external partners.
Provide technical direction in planning design schedules, development milestones, and risk mitigation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
Strong FPGA development experience (7+ years preferred) with proven delivery of production‑quality designs.
Experience with FPGA data and signal processing architectures, device interface and synchronous multi‑device design, high‑speed digital and mixed‑signal interfaces, PCIe‑based SoC and use of high‑speed transceiver systems.
Proficiency in VHDL (primary RTL language) or Verilog.
MATLAB for algorithm development and modeling.
Python for scripting, automation, and integration.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Experience in structured development planning, requirements capture, and design reviews.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Xilinx Kintex as well as Zynq Ultrascale/Ultrascale+ devices.
