Sr. Research Director, Duke Margolis Institute for Health Policy Location: Hybrid Washington, DC or Durham, NC (Durham preferred). Salary USD $175,000–$250,000 base. Full‑time, annual renewable upon funding availability. Applications considered on a rolling basis.

Overview The Robert J. Margolis, MD Institute for Health Policy (Duke‑Margolis) seeks a Senior Research Director to lead the Health Care Transformation research domain, supporting strategic design, management, and execution of research initiatives. The role will serve as a strategic and operational leader across the Institute, develop the Institute’s strategic vision, and advance financial sustainability through funding and partnership development.

Key Responsibilities

Lead strategic development and execution of Health Care Transformation research activities and cross‑cutting initiatives.

Identify and guide cross‑cutting opportunities to enhance impact and secure financial support.

Develop and/or lead key components of Institute priorities such as educational, operational, or analytic initiatives.

Engage high‑profile external audiences to increase visibility and impact.

Provide leadership in development and implementation of cross‑institution process improvement.

Recruit, manage, and mentor Institute staff and faculty; promote inclusive excellence.

Collaborate with leadership to determine fiscal requirements, prepare budgetary input, and ensure financial sustainability.

Serve as a principal investigator or project lead when appropriate.

Support the Institute’s strategic initiatives and collaborate on strategic planning across domains.

Offer guidance to enhance research quality and publishing activity.

Assist in development of faculty health‑policy specialization and research synergies.

Participate in cross‑designed initiatives and philanthropic funding efforts.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in health policy, public policy, public health, public administration, health economics, science, engineering, law, or related field (advanced degree preferred). Years of experience may substitute for education.

15 years of progressive experience in policy/research/data analysis or related work; senior or executive‑level experience preferred.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; proven ability to obtain funding and manage research projects.

Ability to coordinate complex activities and provide senior‑level advisement across multiple teams.

Strong research, writing, and analytical skills with content expertise in health‑policy research relevant to the Health Care Transformation domain.

Track record of publication in peer‑reviewed journals or impactful policy‑relevant sources.

Comfortable working in fast‑paced environment; flexible schedule and 10 % travel.
