NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc.

The NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is the country’s first and foremost civil and human rights law organization. Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, the organization was launched at a time when the nation’s aspirations for equality and due process of law were stifled by widespread state-sponsored racial inequality. From that era to the present, LDF’s mission has been transformative — to achieve racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society.

LDF’s litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education programs focus on criminal justice, economic justice, education, and political participation to ensure the fundamental human rights of all people to quality education, economic opportunity, the right to vote, and a fair justice system. LDF continues to make an impact in public service and was recognized by Fast Company as one of its 2023 Brands That Matter in the public service category.

The organization operates in a hybrid work environment; employees are expected to be in the office a minimum of two days per week with occasional travel to other regions for conferences, community events, and staff retreats. The role may require travel up to 50% of the time.

The Senior Organizer for Community Organizing will play a critical role in advancing the department’s mission to build Black political power and dismantle systems of racial injustice. They will oversee the management of multiple high‑impact programs, lead cross‑functional project teams, and build sustainable infrastructure to support long‑term advocacy campaigns across LDF’s four programmatic pillars: Criminal Justice, Education Equity, Economic Justice, and Political Participation.

The Senior Organizer will supervise staff, support strategic planning efforts, and ensure effective operational execution across the department. They will build systems that support staff development, program evaluation, and project impact. The ideal candidate is an experienced racial justice strategist and project manager, deeply committed to racial equity and community power‑building.
