Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager will oversee all accounting operations within the division, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, and adherence to company policies. The role involves managing the day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, cost analysis, and working closely with project managers and executives to ensure financial accuracy as it relates to construction projects and overall revenue. This individual will also help streamline accounting processes, improve internal controls, support ERP/financial system enhancements, and provide strategic financial insights to support business growth.

Success in this role will be measured by timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting, quality of job cost tracking, team development, compliance with internal controls, and improvements in working capital efficiency.

Responsibilities & Duties: Financial Reporting and Analysis:

Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and management reports

Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes

Analyze project costs, profitability, and variances to ensure alignment with budgets and forecasts

Cost Management for Projects:

Review and monitor job cost reports, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs

Work with project managers to ensure accurate coding of job costs and timely billing

Track and forecast project cash flows and assist in project budgeting and cost estimation

Evaluate and report on project profitability, including cost overruns and risks

Compliance & Internal Controls:

Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, internal controls, and private equity sponsor reporting requirements

Assist with internal and external audits and tax filings, providing necessary documentation and reports

Staff Supervision & Development:

Lead and manage the operational accounting team; provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations

Foster a collaborative work environment, encouraging staff development in accounting and construction finance.

Develop and implement staff workflows and best practices to improve team efficiency and accuracy

General Accounting Functions:

Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions

Manage bank reconciliations, cash management, and financing arrangements

Review and approve invoices, purchase orders, and contracts for financial accuracy

Budgeting & Forecasting:

Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts for both operations and projects

Monitor and report financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing actionable insights

Collaboration with Operations:

Work closely with project managers and departmental heads to ensure timely financial information flow

Assist with contract negotiations and pricing strategies for new and ongoing projects

Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, or improve project reporting

Stay current with industry trends, accounting technology, and best practices in construction accounting

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA strongly preferred

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 1+ years in a supervisory/managerial role

Strong knowledge of construction accounting, including job costing, WIP reporting, and contract billing

Experience managing a general ledger within a private company environment

Public accounting experience is a plus but not required

Experience with ERP/financial system implementations or enhancements

Proficiency with construction management and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, RFMS, or similar)

Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills

Ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders

Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills

Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines

Other:

This is a full-time position with standard office hours; flexibility may be required to meet project deadlines. The role is primarily office-based, with occasional remote work options. Some travel to job sites or other divisions may be required.

Base pay range $125,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr
