About the Role Occidental seeks a strategic, creative, and data‑informed Director of Annual Giving to shape and lead a comprehensive, multichannel annual giving program that strengthens the donor pipeline and inspires broad philanthropic engagement across the Oxy community. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Strategic Engagement, the Director will drive participation and revenue growth, advance the College’s highest priorities through the Oxy Fund, and identify leadership and major gift prospects.

Key Responsibilities

Annual Giving Program Leadership

– Design, implement, and assess an integrated annual giving strategy aligned with institutional priorities.

Lead content development, segmentation, and strategy for all multi‑channel annual appeals.

Partner with Advancement Communications to create compelling donor‑centered messaging and a coordinated annual communications calendar.

Oversee planning and execution of giving days, challenge campaigns, reunion giving, and affinity‑based initiatives.

Collaborate with units across campus to integrate annual giving strategies.

Conduct market research to shape marketing approaches for the Oxy Fund.

Foster a culture of philanthropy by partnering with faculty, staff, and student leaders.

Deliver strong stewardship and recognition programs to strengthen donor loyalty.

Engagement Communications, Data & Evaluation

– Optimize Salesforce for segmentation, testing, automation, and analytics.

Ensure data integrity and develop actionable insights.

Refine donor segmentation strategies to support pipeline development.

Track KPIs (retention, acquisition, upgrade rates, participation) and share outcomes with leadership.

Leverage Oxy’s event platform to enhance analytics and engagement tracking.

Continuously refine strategies using benchmarking and best practices.

Administrative & Institutional Advancement Responsibilities

– Supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional staff and student ambassadors.

Manage the annual giving budget and steward resources responsibly.

Uphold ethical standards, including the Donor Bill of Rights.

Contribute to strategic planning and serve in key “tent‑pole” events such as Homecoming, Day for Oxy, and Reunion Weekend.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree.

Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in annual giving or integrated marketing, including digital engagement tools and CRM systems.

Strategic and analytical thinker with deep understanding of donor motivations.

Success in designing and managing multi‑channel campaigns that drive measurable growth.

Exceptional writing, storytelling, and relationship‑building skills.

Empathetic, collaborative leader dedicated to Oxy’s mission.

Commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and continuous learning.

Strong data synthesis and presentation abilities.

Attention to detail; proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office suites.
