Position Summary AC Transit is currently recruiting for a Journey Facilities Maintenance Mechanic in the Facilities Maintenance department. Under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Foreman, this position diagnoses problems and makes repairs or replacements of worn or defective parts of equipment; performs construction and remodeling work on buildings, premises, and property; and performs other related duties as required.

Union Representation This position is a union position, represented by ATU.

Mechanical Responsibilities

Diagnose problems; adjust, clean, repair, and replace defective or worn component parts of steam cleaning equipment, bus washers, fuel island pumps, compressors, heating and air conditioning equipment, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Maintain an equipment and machinery preventative maintenance schedule.

Plumbing Responsibilities

Read and interpret blueprints and plans to avoid obstruction and determine the sequence of installation.

Cut wall and floor openings to accommodate pipes and fittings.

Measure and install pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heaters, fans, water, and drainage systems.

Cut and thread pipe, assemble and install valves and fittings; join and caulk pipe.

Replace washers, mend pipes, and open drains.

Carpentry Responsibilities

Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, plans or schematics.

Cut and install windows and doors.

Install walls, paneling, light fixtures and ceilings.

Build and install counters, cabinets and partitions.

Verify structure trueness using plumb bob and level.

Install or replace door knobs and locks.

Property Maintenance Responsibilities

Install, repair and maintain fencing.

Patch concrete and asphalt paving, patch asphalt roofs, repair or replace pit boards and gratings in garages.

Move furniture and office equipment.

Cleans and maintains shop areas in a neat and orderly condition.

Install metal shelves and lockers.

Repair garage hoists.

Painting Responsibilities

Texture walls; paint interiors and exteriors of existing or remodeled premises.

Lay out and paint parking or traffic lanes and signs.

Repaint or fabricate route signs.

Record Keeping Responsibilities

Record completed maintenance tasks on work orders.

Use the computer terminal for data entry, inquiry and modification.

Perform other related duties as required.

Experience Must have three (3) years of experience in industrial maintenance mechanics or two (2) years or more of the building construction trades (carpentry, painting, plumbing, heating and air conditioning), where the duties included responsibilities for the functions listed under Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. Emphasis will be placed on industrial maintenance mechanics experience.

Skills Reading and interpreting blueprints and plans for construction or remodeling and for plumbing installations; use of all hand and power tools used in carpentry, plumbing and property maintenance mechanics; hydraulic and pneumatic systems; painting and fabricating bus route signs.

Special Requirements

Must possess, or obtain, carpentry, plumbing and mechanical tools necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Must pass the heavy lifting physical.

Must successfully complete training on driving a forklift and truck, if not previously qualified.

Must possess, or obtain, and maintain a valid California Class C Driver License and meet the District’s driving standards.

Medical – Choice of two Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs): Kaiser Permanente and Health Net. $10.00 office visit co‑pays; $5.00–$35.00 prescription co‑pays.

Pension All AC Transit employees participate in a lifetime defined benefit pension.
