Associate Geotechnical Engineer – WSP (United States) WSP is looking for an Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Costa Mesa, CA office as part of the US Mine Waste Team. You will contribute to challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects in a growing organization focused on client objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Work within the mine waste team on civil and geotechnical engineering projects for the mining industry, with opportunities to work on projects in other industries.

Perform engineering tasks such as:

Site and material characterization.

Facility design including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations.

Slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and settlement analyses.

Process fluid management and water balance.

Surface water management facility design and analysis.

Reclamation and closure designs.

Prepare portions of technical reports that document field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.

Assist with project design packages, including technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.

Perform domestic and international field assignments, such as geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to execute project work.

Complete training on assigned tasks.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or an equivalent field of study.

1 to 3 years of relevant post‑education experience.

Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or ability to complete the exam within 6 months of the start date.

Strong analytical skills, including the ability to complete engineering calculations and analyses.

Ability to work both independently and in teams.

Comfortable working in remote settings.

Commitment to a safety‑first culture.

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.

Proficiency with technical writing, office automation tools, spreadsheets, and related technology.

Strong self‑leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Ability to work schedules accommodating project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond a typical workweek.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.

Engineer in Training Certification.

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $76,200 – $101,500.
