About the Position

Hiscock Legal Aid (HLA) is a non‑profit agency focused on providing legal services to low‑income individuals in Central New York. We are creating a new Misdemeanor Defense Program that will launch in early 2026 to deliver comprehensive representation from arraignment through final disposition for individuals charged with misdemeanors and violations in Syracuse City, including traffic court and problem‑solving courts.

Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of misdemeanor and violation defense practice from arraignment through final disposition.

Manage attorney caseloads, assignments, and workflow.

Mentor, train, and evaluate attorneys and staff.

Develop program policies and procedures.

Ensure high‑quality client representation and courtroom advocacy.

Build collaborative relationships with courts, stakeholders, and community partners.

Participate in budgeting, staffing, and reporting as part of the Executive Management Team.
