As a Senior Software Engineer on the Customer Identity Engineering team, you will work on improving and maintaining the core systems that authenticate and authorize users across our platforms. You will also collaborate with data scientists and other engineering teams to build and implement advanced detections to identify and prevent Auth‑N / Auth‑Z abuse. You’ll have the opportunity to work with cutting‑edge security protocols, contribute to improving the reliability and performance of our identity services, and help ensure that our customers’ accounts remain secure.
Location: Hybrid (3 days in office/2 days remote) – New York, NY or Santa Monica, CA or Aliso Viejo, CA
About the team: StubHub's Customer Identity Engineering team plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of our users by maintaining and enhancing our authentication and authorization services through the use of security best‑practices and first‑class software engineering.
What You'll Do:
Design, build, and maintain scalable authentication and authorization services.
Implement security features to protect against common vulnerabilities (e.g. OWASP top 10)
Collaborate with data science teams to integrate machine learning models aimed at identifying and preventing suspicious login activity.
Monitor and improve the performance of identity‑related services.
Investigate and troubleshoot issues related to account security, user identity, and authentication failures.
Drive improvements in security protocols, performance optimization, and user experience.
Keep up to date with the latest security and identity management trends and apply that knowledge to your work.
What You’ve Done:
5+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally with a focus on authentication, authorization, and identity services.
Proficiency in backend development using languages such as Java, C#, or Python.
Experience working with security protocols such as OAuth, SAML, OpenID Connect, and WebAuthN.
Familiarity with building and maintaining scalable, distributed systems.
Experience working with databases, both relational (e.g., MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB, Cassandra).
Understanding foundational concepts of machine learning (Supervised / Unsupervised) and the ability to collaborate with data scientists on implementations.
World class problem‑solving skills and the ability to think critically about security, reliability, and performance.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Working Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), hands‑on experience building and owning a cloud‑optimized service.
Expert experience with containerization and hosting technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus / Grafana.
Previous experience leveraging Machine Learning to augment authentication services to identify fraudulent/ anonymous logins.
