Director, AWS Cloud & Healthcare Solutions
Role Overview
The Director, AWS Cloud & Healthcare Solutions will lead the strategic direction, architecture, and execution of cloud-native initiatives, leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) to drive innovation and transformation within the healthcare domain. This leadership role ensures all cloud solutions meet stringent industry regulations (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.), deliver scalable performance, and align with core business objectives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Vision
Cloud Strategy & Roadmap:
Define and champion the long-term cloud strategy and technical roadmap for all healthcare-focused applications and data platforms on AWS.
Executive Alignment:
Collaborate closely with executive leadership, clinical operations, and IT teams to translate business needs into technical cloud solutions that deliver measurable value.
Innovation and Transformation:
Drive the adoption of emerging AWS technologies (e.g., Generative AI via SageMaker, Serverless computing, specialized services like AWS HealthLake) to modernize legacy systems.
AWS Architecture and Technical Governance
Oversight of Cloud Architecture:
Provide architectural governance over solution designs, ensuring they are secure, cost-optimized, high-performing, and resilient, adhering to AWS Well-Architected Framework principles.
Security and Compliance (HIPAA):
Act as the final authority ensuring all data storage, processing, and transmission within AWS environments are strictly compliant with healthcare regulations (e.g.,
HIPAA, HITECH, SOC 2 ).
This includes oversight of VPC networking, IAM policies, encryption standards, and logging/auditing using services like
CloudTrail and CloudWatch .
Cost Management:
Implement and manage FinOps practices to monitor, forecast, and optimize cloud spending (e.g., Reserved Instances, Compute Savings Plans) across the entire AWS footprint.
Team Management and Delivery
Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of Cloud Architects, DevOps Engineers, and Data Engineers.
Delivery Excellence:
Ensure the consistent, on-time delivery of AWS projects, utilizing Agile and DevOps methodologies (CI/CD pipelines using
AWS CodePipeline/CodeBuild/CodeDeploy ).
Vendor and Partner Management:
Manage relationships with AWS account teams and third-party vendors to maximize service utilization and support.
Clinical Data Expertise:
Understand the architecture and integration requirements for clinical data systems ( EMR/EHR , Lab Information Systems, Patient Portals).
Data Interoperability:
Oversee solutions for complex healthcare data formats, standards, and exchange protocols ( HL7, FHIR ).
Advanced Analytics:
Direct the implementation of data lakes ( AWS S3 ) and analytics solutions ( AWS Redshift, Glue, Athena ) to enable predictive modeling, population health management, and operational reporting.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
8+ years of progressive experience in Information Technology, with at least 4 years in a leadership/Director role focused on Cloud Architecture and Delivery.
AWS Expertise:
Extensive, hands‑on experience designing and managing enterprise‑scale solutions across core AWS services (S3, EC2, Lambda, EKS, RDS/Aurora, Redshift, Glue, SageMaker).
Healthcare Domain Knowledge:
Deep operational and regulatory knowledge of the U.S. Healthcare industry, including payer, provider, or pharmaceutical sectors.
Regulatory Compliance:
Proven track record of architecting and deploying solutions that meet
HIPAA/HITECH
security and privacy requirements.
