The
Project Engineer
will lead the end‑to‑end technical design, engineering, procurement, and construction of commercial and utility‑scale solar projects. This role manages internal and external engineering resources to deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective systems that meet safety, performance, and reliability goals.
Responsibilities Technical Evaluation
Review site parameters, interconnection studies, and customer loads to determine optimal system sizing and configuration
Conduct detailed shading analysis, structural assessments, and electrical reviews to inform equipment selection and layout
Model proposed designs in PVsyst or equivalent to predict energy production and economic performance
Select appropriate technologies for project needs, including modules, inverters, racking, and system balance of plant
Design Execution
Lead engineering team to produce permit/construction drawing sets meeting all applicable codes and client standards
Direct internal and external engineering resources to produce full construction drawing sets and documentation packages meeting relevant codes, client specifications, utility standards, and other requirements. Manage relationships with third‑party engineering firms.
Specify electrical protection, monitoring, and control schemes to support grid stability and meet utility requirements
Develop equipment specs, bills of materials, and detailed scopes of work for procurement and construction
Coordinate technical reviews and secure permit approvals from authorities having jurisdiction
Review detailed civil, structural, and electrical engineering design packages and ensure compliance with Reactivate’s technical specifications
Stay apprised of technology advancements and trends across PV modules, inverters, racking, and energy storage OEMs
Support continuous improvement initiatives, including safety, material/process template improvement, and standardization
Construction Support
Provide technical supervision of contractors during system installations to ensure plan adherence
Work closely with EPC contractors through procurement, construction, and commissioning
Review shop drawings, inspect deliveries, and witness factory testing as needed
Review punch list inspection, testing, and commissioning of completed systems before approval
Compile as‑built drawings, operations manuals, warranty docs, and other project closeout paperwork
Participate in project construction by responding to contractor RFIs, participating in monthly construction meetings, and reviewing site QA/QC documents
Conduct site visits to support site constructability evaluation and support construction progress
Requirements
3‑5 years of commercial solar energy system design experience, preferably working with the design of new facilities
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, PE preferred
Knowledgeable of the NEC code
NABCEP or PV Installation Professional Certification a plus
Expertise in solar plant equipment, including PV modules, racking systems, inverters, and electrical balance of plant
Proficiency with PVSyst, SAM, AutoCAD, PVcase, ArcGIS, Helioscope, and Aurora Solar is a plus
Experience reviewing civil, structural, or electrical engineering design packages
Experience managing third‑party due diligence studies and energy production estimates
Ability to multi‑task and manage deliverables for multiple projects at a time
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with varied interests and backgrounds
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management, and problem‑solving skills
Proficient with the Microsoft Windows Office suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Some travel required
Annual base salary: $85,000.00 – $115,000.00. Reactivate considers several factors when determining base pay offers such as scope and responsibility of the role, candidate’s work experience and/or education, training and certifications among other key skills at the time of offer.
