Sign‑On Bonus

Position Summary The Deputy Medical Director – Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) is a full‑time, 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week) supervisory adult psychiatrist. The role provides leadership and supervision to outpatient multidisciplinary teams, serves as the Designated Institutional Official for ACGME‑accredited programs, and assists the Medical Director in all clinical, administrative, and regulatory duties.
Responsibilities
Lead integrated care for clients with serious mental illness and co‑occurring substance use disorders.
Provide direct services to adult clients.
Supervise and consult with other physicians on evaluation and treatment of BHRS clients.
Teach, mentor, and supervise psychiatric residents; oversee Graduate Medical Education.
Conduct quality improvement activities (e.g., review of hospital admissions, research proposals).
Support electronic medical record activities and co‑chair the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
Assist the Medical Director with health plans, regulatory, and fiscal activities.
Act as Medical Director in his/her absence.
Handle administrative duties such as grievances, time‑card approvals, and coverage coordination.
Participate in resident training committees and other BHRS meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
Board certified in Adult Psychiatry with at least three years supervising psychiatrists and/or residents.
Strong interest and knowledge of behavioral health policy, planning, and performance measurement.
Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment and medications for addiction (preferred).
Experience with EPIC medical record system (preferred).
Education & Experience A typical qualification path includes completion of a residency in Adult Psychiatry followed by at least three years of supervisory experience in psychiatric practice.
Licensure / Certification
Active medical or osteopathic license in California.
Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Knowledge and Skills
Healthcare management principles, revenue retrieval, and regulatory compliance.
Advanced psychiatric principles, psychopharmacology, and differential diagnosis.
Development of medical policies, procedures, and protocols.
Supervisory practices and performance evaluation.
Effective management techniques and resource planning.
Proficient written and oral communication with patients, families, and health staff.

The process includes: 1) application screening (pass/fail), 2) panel interview (100% weight). Candidates who pass will be invited to the interview stage.
