Pay Range $57.85 - $86.80 per hour
Overview Atrium Health invites Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners to join the Critical Care department at Carolinas Medical Center.
The role primarily covers either the Cardiac or Neuro ICUs in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country.
Responsibilities
Rotate 13‑hour shifts (7 a‑8 p or 7 p‑8 a) with rotating weekends and holidays.
Provide 24/7 coverage with a shift‑based model.
Work exclusively in adult inpatient settings (100 %).
Cover at least 50 % of night shifts; can accommodate strictly nocturnist or weekender coverage if preferred.
Document patient encounters, assess progress, and determine treatment plans.
Order and interpret laboratory and radiology studies.
Write prescriptions and administer medications as appropriate.
Perform a wide range of surgical and/or medical procedures as required by the ICU team.
Advocate for patients and participate in group practice meetings and policy development.
Manage ventilator settings, vasopressor titration, and complex clinical cases.
Conduct initial and periodic medical histories and physical examinations.
Qualifications
At least one year of experience as an inpatient Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
Graduated from an accredited PA or ACNP program.
Post‑graduate ICU fellowship preferred.
Master’s degree or doctorate in nursing practice for NPs.
Certification as an ACNP (or equivalent) from a nationally recognized certifying body required.
Physician Assistants require certification from the National Commission on Certification of PAs.
Valid North Carolina license and DEA registration.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
Ability to obtain and maintain prescriptive authority as required by state regulations.
Strong critical‑thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate under stress.
