Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology . This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a large, multifaceted, and respected anesthesiology program—known for its clinical breadth, collaborative culture, and commitment to education and patient-centered care.

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine plays a vital role in delivering expert perioperative care across UH’s extensive network, including UH Cleveland Medical Center, ambulatory surgery centers, and community hospitals. With more than 110,000 cases annually, the department supports operating rooms, out-of-OR procedures, and critical care environments. Key programs include comprehensive pain management, pediatric anesthesiology, and the Center for Perioperative Medicine, which optimizes patients preoperatively and is poised for expansion. The department is deeply committed to education, offering a four-year ACGME-accredited residency program and five subspecialty fellowships in pediatric anesthesiology, adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology, pain medicine, regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine, and critical care medicine. Faculty hold academic appointments at Case Western Reserve University and foster a collaborative, high-quality learning environment that prepares future leaders in anesthesiology. Research is an integral part of the department’s mission, with active clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies in perioperative outcomes, pain management, and neuromodulation.

At this pivotal time, UH seeks a Chair who will provide strategic, and visionary leadership to guide the department’s clinical, academic, and research missions into a new era of integration, innovation, and impact. The ideal candidate is a nationally recognized academic anesthesiologist with a proven track record of leadership, operational excellence, and scholarly achievement—someone who understands the nuances of system-based care and can unify a diverse team across academic and community settings. This individual will have earned an MD or MD/PhD, have demonstrated leadership experience within a complex and dynamic academic health system and/or medical school, and be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Clinically active candidates must be board certified and eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio.

The Chair will report to Nicole Maronian, MD, President of University Hospitals Physician Services and Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery at UH; Daniel Simon, MD, President of Academic & External Affairs and Chief Scientific Officer of UH; and Stanton Gerson, MD, Dean of the School of Medicine and Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs at Case Western Reserve University.
