Clinical Pharmacist – Operating Room (Full-time Rotating Shifts)

Salary Range: $61.00 - $73.20 per hour.

The Clinical Pharmacist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures and regulations. The role is responsible for identifying, preventing, and resolving medication‑related problems; providing expert information to healthcare professionals and patients; and ensuring integrated pharmacy services to deliver patient‑centered care.
Responsibilities:
Interprets medication orders to ensure safety and proper use; alerts to compatibilities, incompatibilities, duplications, allergies, and potential administration errors; coordinates problem solving.
Monitors medication therapy for significant interactions and intervenes as needed.
Evaluates and documents appropriateness of medication choices; communicates potential problems and solutions to prescribers.
Consults on pharmacokinetics and adverse reactions; participates in therapeutic drug monitoring and adjustment of therapy.
Processes medication order information into the Electronic Health Record; ensures accuracy of dispensing and charging records.
Maintains comprehensive pharmacy patient profiles with pertinent clinical data.
Oversight of packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications; monitors scheduled medication use and controlled inventories.
Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including sterile products, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition.
Verifies medication orders before delivery; resolves discrepancies.
Reviews laboratory data for medication appropriateness; recommends changes.
Develops orientation, education and training programs for staff and educates pharmacy students, residents and fellows.
Educates patients and families about specific medications.
Responds to emergency situations involving medication management (e.g., cardiac arrests).
Provides accurate medication information and teaching.
Maintains hospital formulary and limits non‑formulary usage when appropriate.
Documents all clinical activities and interventions; collects data, maintains logs.
Communicates professional knowledge effectively orally and in writing.
Participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities.
Organizes, prioritizes, and plans workload; coordinates with technicians and pharmacy staff to achieve objectives.
Reviews restocking of automated dispensing cabinets; resolves issues.
Ensures compliance with hazardous waste collection and disposal procedures.
Maintains proficiency and expertise through continuous professional development.
All other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
Current license to practice pharmacy in Illinois.
Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree.
Preferred:
Training and knowledge of specialty areas (neonatology, critical care, oncology, etc.).
Completion of a pharmacy residency program or equivalent hospital pharmacy experience.
