Audio Mechanical Design Engineer - San Francisco

About the Role: We are looking for an experienced Audio Mechanical Design Engineer to join a high-performing team focused on developing cutting-edge audio hardware solutions for Augmented and Virtual Reality applications. You will be instrumental in designing and integrating custom acoustic speaker modules into advanced consumer electronics, helping to define the future of immersive, social-first technology experiences.This position demands strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, expertise in CAD, a creative and data-driven approach to prototyping, and hands-on experience with high-volume manufacturing of micro-speaker systems.Key Responsibilities:Lead the design of complex micro-plastic mechanical structures for audio speaker modules using techniques like insert molding and acoustic mesh integration.Build and test prototypes to validate mechanical and acoustic performance; design test systems and use mechanical validation data to drive improvements.Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams from concept through to mass production.Coordinate with external partners including contract manufacturers and vendors to ensure effective execution and optimal use of internal resources.Stay informed of the latest technological advancements and explore innovative design approaches for speaker integration.Travel up to 15% to visit and collaborate with global vendors, particularly in Asia.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).4+ years in mechanical product design and development, preferably with micro-speaker systems for consumer electronics.Skilled in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing.Proficient in 2D/3D CAD design.Deep understanding of materials including plastics, metals, adhesives, and glass.Familiarity with DOE and mold flow analysis, and high-volume manufacturing processes like stamping, machining, and injection molding.Preferred Qualifications:Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.Experience using NX CAD.Background in cosmetic surface treatments and close collaboration with industrial design teams.Experience working with overseas vendors and manufacturers. #J-18808-Ljbffr
