Essential Functions

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for providing financial leadership, revenue/profitability forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting for the collective organizations of Powers Insurance, Leif Assurance, and VIAA.

Position Summary

The CFO plays a key role in ensuring that Powers, VIAA, and Leif operate with financial discipline, clear systems, and reliable data to guide business decisions. This position leads budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and financial reporting, while also managing cash flow, compliance, and internal controls. This includes the oversight and management of profit-sharing distributions received from our insurance company partners to our VIAA Member agencies. The CFO supports the CEO by providing timely insights, reducing risk, and helping align the financial strategy with the broader goals of each entity. The role is both strategic and hands-on, guiding financial operations at a high level while ensuring smooth day-to-day execution. The CFO ensures that the financial foundation supports day-to-day operations while positioning the organization for continued long-term growth.

Financial Oversight & Strategy

Oversee the full financial operations of Powers, VIAA, and Leif Manage and oversee distribution of profit-sharing revenue from insurance carriers to VIAA Members, ensuring timeliness and accuracy Develop and manage company-wide budgets and forecasts Ability to develop and assign corresponding department-level budgets and forecasts Monitor cash flow, capital planning, and financial risk Deliver timely reports with actionable data to guide executive and departmental decisions Ensure tax filings, audits, and financial compliance are completed accurately and on time Provide financial insight and recommendations on agency performance, vendor contracts, and strategic growth Provide expert guidance and related strategy supporting agency acquisitions, including with respect to the timing and tax implications of such acquisitions Work with CEO, and outside accounting resources, if applicable, to maximize company-wide tax strategy Develop or coordinate development and continuous improvement of all financial and accounting related policies and procedures for Powers, VIAA and Leif

Training & Development

Coach department leaders on financial responsibilities, tools, and reporting Build and develop a finance team that is collaborative, capable, and future-ready Foster a learning culture around financial literacy across all companies

Operational Systems and Integration

Align financial systems and tools across Powers, VIAA, and Leif Standardize and enforce processes for reporting, reconciliation, billing, and expense tracking Ensure department responds daily to payment requests, billing, and other financial transactions or obligations that may be outstanding Collaborate with technology and operations teams to improve automation and data accuracy Maintain data integrity across accounting systems and CRM platforms

Relationship Management and Representation

Serve as a point of contact for external financial partners, including auditors, banks, and carriers Support company presentations and reports for insurance carriers, networks, and other stakeholders In conjunction with COO, review and maintain Master Vendor spreadsheet for vendors/contracts and recurring expenses for companywide line-of-sight. Represent the organization’s financial priorities in member-facing discussions and national events Contribute to building long-term value through strong industry and agency relationships

Knowledge, Skills And Ability Requirements

10+ years of experience in financial leadership roles, preferably within the insurance or professional services industry Experience working with or for an independent insurance agency, agency network, MGA, or related entity is strongly preferred Must be flexible, able to manage multiple tasks, and adaptable to changing priorities Technologically savvy with an interest in improving systems and integrating data Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills Willingness to travel to meet with members, attend industry events, or represent the company at national functions (some travel may include overnight stays up to a week at a time) Superior computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams; must also be comfortable navigating Salesforce Active participant in industry events and association functions to support growth, relationship-building, and strategic positioning Detail-oriented, accurate, and a creative thinker who brings new ideas to financial strategy and process improvement Self-directed and organized, able to work across departments with limited supervision Strong ability to lead, coach, and support both direct reports and cross-functional partners Prior experience in teaching, coaching, or managing teams is a strong asset Passionate about promoting a culture focused on service, financial performance, and internal growth Property & Casualty Producer License (optional)
