$90,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yr Farmer Mac is seeking a highly motivated professional to join its Balance Sheet Management (BSM) group as an Analyst. The position will play an important role in supporting the BSM team with modeling and analytics, designing optimal funding strategies, and valuing and pricing asset purchases.
The People You Will Work With
Reporting to the Head of Balance Sheet Management, this position will support the three areas within BSM: Modeling & Analytics, Valuation & Pricing, and BSM Strategy. The position will also be interacting extensively with other departments within Farmer Mac, including Treasury, FP&A, Accounting & Financial Reporting, business lines, and Information Technology.
Where and When You Will Work
The position will be based in Farmer Mac’s headquarters located at 2100 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. Core business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m. Eastern. Farmer Mac has a Presence with Purpose work environment, which allows for flexibility of work location while providing the opportunity for teams to come together in the office with purpose. Work outside of core hours may be required for planned and unplanned activities to complete time-sensitive projects or to attend off-site meetings or events.
Primary Responsibilities And Duties
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Modeling and Analytics
Support and maintain the ALM system (“Quantitative Risk Management - QRM”) for managing interest rate risk Ensure that financial data and quantitative models used by QRM are accurate, to enable balance sheet optimization, accurate business planning, and regulatory stress testing
Valuation and Pricing
Estimate fair values of assets, liabilities, and derivatives, for financial statements and disclosures Support and periodically refresh collateral valuations for wholesale financing Support business development by using FTP for cost of funds inputs for asset purchases and pools of loans. Generate principal cash flow forecasts for amortization and reporting, including securitization valuations
Balance Sheet Management Strategy
Develop funding strategies, based on market conditions, balance sheet positioning, cost of funds, and asset characteristics Support the buildout of portfolio level approaches for applying hedge accounting Monitor asset/liability matching and support rebalancing initiative to effectively manage Farmer Mac’s interest rate risk profile Support balance sheet management reporting to management, auditors, regulators, ALCO, and Board of Directors
Additionally, the incumbent will participate in cross-functional initiatives supporting a variety of ad hoc analyses and projects.
Desired Skills And Qualifications
Familiarity with concepts such as duration, convexity, and fixed income mathematics Experience with quantitative modeling software and tools; experience with the QRM framework preferred Strong work ethic and self-motivation Basic knowledge of asset liability management and treasury processes, including quantitative approaches and the ability to learn finance topics such as interest rate risk, liquidity risk, option risk, and company-wide product offerings Strong Microsoft Excel, SQL, and data skills
Education and Experience
One to four years of relevant financial services experience at a financial institution with a focus on interest rate risk management or Treasury Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or other related field from an accredited college/university Master’s degree, CPA, CFA, or FRM a plus
