Barrington Public Schools is seeking a forward- thinking established educational leader to serve as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the 2025-2026 school year. This critical leadership role requires vision, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to educational equity. The Superintendent oversees all aspects of instructional leadership, strategic planning, operational and financial management, community engagement, and staff development. Located in the picturesque town of Barrington, Rhode Island, the district includes six schools (four elementary schools, one middle and one high school) and is deeply committed to fostering excellence in teaching and learning. With a focus on continuous growth and innovation, Barrington embraces education as both an art and a science—valuing creativity, adaptability, and a learner-centered approach to meet the diverse needs of all students. Nationally recognized for its excellence, Barrington Public Schools has earned numerous accolades, including state 5-star ratings and Blue Ribbon School designations for all six schools. The district is ranked Gold by U.S. News & World Report and holds a #43 national ranking in STEM. Barrington consistently leads the state in student achievements across academics, the arts, music, and athletics, with more top placements in competitions than any other district in Rhode Island. The district is also distinguished by its highly qualified staff, with 80% of educators holding Master’s degrees and 30 earning National Board Certification. Qualified candidates are expected to meet the following general performance standards for the position. Successful candidates must: Have exceptional communication and leadership skillsets. Have prior experience as a Superintendent of Schools. Has a master’s degree; advanced degree preferred. Be appropriately licensed or license eligible. Demonstrate the ability to build strong personal relationships with staff, community members and School Committee members. Demonstrate successful leadership through empowering and inspiring others within the organization and shaping a positive and productive school and district culture. Have knowledge of collective bargaining. Work effectively with the School Committee to formulate district policy, and sustain effective communication with the larger BPS school community. Knowledge about and ability to promote effective teaching techniques throughout the district to maximize academic achievement for all students. Provide strong leadership on the attainment of district goals. Oversee a complex, multi-million-dollar district budget with transparency and accountability. Communicate effectively across multiple platforms to ensure transparency and shared ownership of district goals. Knowledge about RI state law and reform issues and current with relevant federal laws. Preferred Requirements Experience managing large-scale building projects. The compensation package will be commensurate with the new superintendent’s qualifications, credentials, and experience.
