Ocean Import Agent
The Ocean Import Agent facilitates the daily operations of the FCL and LCL shipments imported into the US via ocean carriers. The Import Agent is responsible for preparing files, distribution of documents, cargo tracking, billing and collection of funds while meeting or exceeding customer expectations. You will be in the frontline of the Trans-Pacific Trade and coordinate the import of containerized goods from Asian countries into the US. You will ensure our customer's goods are delivered to the right place at the right time. This involves: Clear understanding of where the shipments currently are and where they need to be: Processing documents necessary for entry and delivery of containers: Influencing the different parties involved to successfully deliver the shipment to the customer: Managing and exceeding customer's expectations. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Receive and update shipment status in a timely manner; issue shipment alerts Track and Trace Inbound Ocean shipments Ensure timely delivery of cargo to customer Process documents and issue arrival notices timely and accurately Complete shipment accounting timely and accurately Create Import files Obtain and create quotes for shipments and source best method of transportation Work with brokerage to coordinate and monitor the release of goods from the carrier, customs or other government agency examinations that may be required Build relationships with all customers, other offices, overseas agents and service providers Review standard operating procedures to ensure compliance Report irregularities in operations and new customer requirements to management for decisions on additional service requirements Skills Essential To The Job MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and Access) High school diploma or GED Minimum of two (2) years' experience in logistics/freight forwarding industry, preferred Thorough understanding of ocean shipment documentation process, a plus Possess excellent data entry skills and customer service skills with the ability to grasp extensive knowledge whole dealing with a variety of people Demonstrated critical thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks, and identifying alternative solutions or approaches Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion Ability to multi-task and work independently Time management skills Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $21.00 - $23.00 Per Hour
