Director of Nursing (DON)

to lead our nursing operations and drive exceptional outcomes.

Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) is a key member of our facility’s executive leadership team, responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of nursing services. This leader ensures the delivery of high-quality clinical care, fosters a culture of accountability, and implements best practices that support compliance, resident satisfaction, and staff engagement.

The ideal candidate is not just a nurse manager—but a transformational leader who is passionate about excellence in post-acute care and committed to fostering a strong, positive team culture.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Clinical Leadership

Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing policies, procedures, and standards in alignment with federal, state, and facility guidelines. Establish strategic nursing goals and monitor KPIs to support clinical excellence and operational efficiency. Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives and clinical audits.

Team Management & Development

Recruit, retain, and mentor a high-performing team of RNs, LPNs, and CNAs. Oversee daily clinical operations, including staffing, scheduling, and emergency response planning. Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and career development opportunities for clinical staff. Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.

Resident-Focused Care

Ensure person-centered care that respects resident rights, dignity, and preferences. Collaborate with physicians, therapy teams, social services, and families to ensure optimal outcomes. Serve as the clinical liaison with regulatory bodies, surveyors, and external partners.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

Maintain compliance with all state and federal healthcare regulations, including infection control protocols. Ensure accurate and timely completion of clinical documentation and MDS processes. Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and reduce clinical risks through data-informed decisions.

Qualifications

Current RN license in the state of Michigan (required) Minimum 3 years of nursing leadership experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility Proven success in managing nursing departments, leading teams, and improving quality metrics Strong understanding of federal and state regulatory guidelines (CMS, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.) Excellent leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills Ability to lead through influence, innovation, and integrity
