Senior Bridge Engineer - Department of Planning & Engineering

Organizational Overview:

The Bergen County Department of Planning & Engineering, Engineering Division strives for quality of life improvements through various transportation infrastructure projects that include bridges, culverts, drainage systems, roadways, and signalized intersections under County jurisdiction. The Division administers these infrastructure improvement projects from concept through construction. The Division continues to modernize infrastructure to improve safety and the movement of traffic along County roadways while remaining compliant with new regulations and design requirements.

Job Description:

The Bergen County Department Planning and Engineering is seeking a Structural (Bridge) Engineer with 10 years' experience and Professional Engineer's License to join the County Engineering Division located in Hackensack, New Jersey. The candidate is required to possess thorough knowledge of NJDOT design standards for steel and concrete structures and NJDOT Standard Specification for Road and Bridge Construction.

Job Responsibilities:

Review of various documents prepared by engineering consultants for complete bridge replacements and rehabilitations including: concept plans, preliminary and final engineering plans, structural calculations, technical specifications, and engineer's estimates. Oversee all phases of project development including: scheduling, planning, design, permitting, technical specifications, inspection, contract plans and documents, and cost estimates. Oversee and ensure full compliance with DOT/FHWA requirements.

Schedule:

Full time (40 hours/week)

Education Requirements:

BS in Civil Engineering, MS in Structural Engineering preferred.

Other Requirements:

Experience with NJDOT design standards, procedures and requirements. Experience with current NJDOT Design Exception Manual. Experience with current AASHTO Geometric Design of Highways and Streets manual Experience with current AASHTO LRFD design code, LRFR, and NJDOT manuals and procedures. Experience with NJDOT County Aid and Local Bridge Fund (LBF) grant requirements and compliance. Experience in Micro Station and AutoCAD. Experience in Primavera Project schedule is a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Possess a Professional Engineer's license in the state of New Jersey or the ability to obtain within 6 months. Possess a valid driver's license.

Salary:

$109,000 / per annum
