The duties of this position involve responsibility for planning, directing and providing for a comprehensive and diversified program of appropriate leisure time activities geared to the specific interests and needs of patients in a residential health care facility. The intent of the program is to create an environment and offer opportunities for active participation in activities with emphasis on working with the healthy aspect of the patients by providing physical, intellectual, social and emotional stimulation much in the same way as everyday life in the community. The leisure time Activities director is responsible to the facility administrator for the operation of the department. The degree of the Activities Director’s direct contact with patients varies with the size of the facility and activities program staff. Supervision is exercised over the work of Activities Aides and other subordinate personnel and volunteers. The incumbent does related work as required. Description

Key Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and directs a program of appropriate leisure time activities consistent with the cultural and ethnic backgrounds of facility patients. Interview patients to determine interests and to develop an activities program for inclusion into their total care plan. Involved in budget preparation and oversight for department. Active in resident care planning and oversight (as detailed below): Interview resident to determine interest and to develop an activity program for inclusion into their total care plan Present problems/needs of resident and execute the corresponding approaches as stated in resident’s plan of care Assess residents assigned prior to 14 day of admission Initial Assessment Quarterly Significant Changes Annuals Any and all progress notes Signing and dating all MDS’s computer and paper Attend Multidisciplinary Care Plan meetings as assigned Obtains physician’s approval for the patient’s participation in the program. Assigns duties to and supervises activities program staff and volunteers. Reviews program participation with patient and records findings and any changes. Arranges for transportation to enable patients to attend or participate in community events, services, projects, and entertainment groups. Orders supplies and equipment and maintains inventories for the activities program. Prepares records and reports related to the activities programs. Participates in QAPI program as requested/required. If OTA, is able to feed those patients with need, however is not able to supervise staff/volunteers to do so.
Qualifications
Education:
Must possess minimum of 2 years degree in recreation or occupational therapy
Certifications
NCCAP Certification (National Certification Council for Activities Professionals) Required
Experience
Two years experience in adult residential activities.
