About The Department
The Center for Personalized Therapeutics researches pharmacogenomics on two levels: discovery and implementation. Research Coordinators work on both types of projects which provide a system for clinicians to use patients' genetic information when making medication decisions.
Job Summary
The Senior Programmer will perform high level programming tasks for the Center of Personalized Therapeutics which designs and implements secure systems for sensitive human subjects and related projects. The developed systems will acquire, store and process biomedical datasets, to be used on personalized medicine research.
Responsibilities
Performs advanced programming; codes, writes scripts tests, designs, maintains, and debugs new, or enhances existing, applications or programs. Documents workflows associated with business requirements. Determines hardware requirements for the accomplishment of goals. Develops programs according to specifications. Solves complex problems and works on all phases of application development and programming activities. Participates in component design, programming, code reviews, and unit testing. Designs and develops technology and models for development projects as assigned. Performs code testing on components and works to ensure appropriate implementation standards are met. Provides support and maintenance for existing applications and participates in production support during business hours and prelaunch hours. Recommends solutions for problems and makes enhancements to programs. Builds queries to update or extract data for reporting purposes. Develops user manuals. Resolves customer complaints and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements from end-users. Produces written documentation of project development and programming code. Works with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements for developmental programs. Receives a moderate level of guidance to design applications to meet University and business requirements. Supports and maintains existing applications. Works with web developers and responds to requests from users. Performs other related work as needed.
Education:
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Certifications:
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Advanced degree in computer science or a related field.
Experience:
Background working in biomedical research.
Technical Skills Or Knowledge:
Markup languages and formats such as HTML/CSS, JSON, and XML. Programming languages such as C#, Java, Perl, PHP, and JavaScript. Designing web applications using the MVC and service-oriented design patterns. Writing unit tests and using CI/CD pipelines on platforms like GitLab. Understanding of biomedical terminologies. Proficient using some of the following or equivalent technologies: ASP.Net/.NET Core, MVC and service-oriented design C#, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Angular or similar, SQL Server, IIS web server, RESTful APIs, Unit testing, Git/SVN.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Effective communication skills and work with minimum supervision. Work in a collaborative team environment. Attention to detail. Prioritize and manage workload to meet critical project milestones and deadlines. Confidentiality related to sensitive University matters such as, strategic initiatives, trade secrets, quiet periods, and scientific discoveries yet to be put in the public domain.
Working Conditions
Work on a flexible schedule which will include occasional late night and/or weekend hours.
