Our team leads the planning and implementation of complex public infrastructure initiatives with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable land use Job Summary: InterAgency is seeking a mid-level environmental scientist to join our growing environmental practice. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to work alongside senior environmental staff, collaborating on major resiliency and infrastructure projects in the DC metropolitan area. Projects will range from preliminary planning to construction and include the following: Subsurface infrastructure to mitigate flooding impacts Large diameter tunnels to remediate combined sewer overflows (CSOs) Redesign of existing sea walls to address sea level rise Bridge construction over navigable waterways Stream restoration Key Responsibilities: Prepare federal, state and local permit applications and manage the review and processing of permits Prepare NEPA documents Advise clients on environmental permitting and regulatory requirements through preliminary desktop assessments and detailed permit matrices Collaborate with project team leader to ensure data accuracy, completeness and that clients expectations are met for scope, budget, schedule and quality Support development of technical proposals Follow safety protocols and guidelines during fieldwork Author Environmental Management Plans Administer ESC, SWM Mentor junior environmental team members Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in environmental science or related field. 7+ years of environmental consulting experience Proven knowledge of Clean Water Act and related regulations, including 7 of Endangered Species Act and 106 of Historic Preservation Act (see qualifications) Demonstrated experience managing environmental permitting and regulatory compliance for large-scale infrastructure projects Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines Qualifications: Candidates with one or more of the following certifications or formal training credentials will be given strong consideration: Clean Water Act and Related Regulations: NPDES ( Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) compliance certification Certified Stormwater Inspector (CSI) Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) Certified Professional in Stormwater Quality (CPSWQ) Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training Federal- or state-recognized Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and/or Historic Preservation Act compliance training
NEPA and Environmental Planning: Certified Environmental Planner NEPA Certificate from a recognized provider (e.g., Archer Institute, Shipley Group, UC Davis, or accredited university programs) NEPA training through federal agencies such as FHWA, DOE, or DOT Other environmental impact assessment or regulatory compliance training Relevant certifications in environmental policy, wetland delineation,
endangered/threatened
species surveys, infrastructure planning, and regulatory permitting are also welcomed and encouraged Employment Conditions: Type: Full-time, exempt employment. Schedule: Hybrid remote, with typically 3 days in-office. Company Business Hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 PM (EST). Flexible work location among 3 offices in DC Metro Area: Bethesda, MD, Tysons Corner, VA, and DC Navy Yard area. Must be able to reliably commute to client locations within the DC Metro area. Able to walk long distances and carry equipment. Light lifting to 50 lbs. Compensation: Annual salary commensurate with experience.
