Job Description JOB FUNCTION / PURPOSE : The Security Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, engineering, and implementing physical security systems for client and internal projects. This role collaborates with Pre-Construction and Operations teams to interpret project specifications, develop system layouts, and produce detailed installation drawings. The engineer will design security systems including access control, video surveillance (CCTV), intrusion detection, and may assist with intercom, nurse call, paging, and A/V systems. Using tools like AutoCAD, the engineer ensures a smooth transition from engineering to operations, supporting collaboration across teams to deliver reliable, compliant security solutions. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES : Conduct site assessments to identify security risks and operational requirements. Design comprehensive physical security systems, including CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, intercom, and perimeter protection. Create system layouts, riser diagrams, wiring schematics, and bills of material using CAD or similar tools. Select appropriate hardware and technologies, including cameras, access control devices, and network components. Design scalable, integrable systems aligned with IT infrastructure and cybersecurity standards. Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards such as NFPA 731, UL 294, NEC, ADA, and FIPS 201. Coordinate with architects, contractors, and trades to integrate systems into building projects. Evaluate products and designs to ensure performance and value. Prepare technical documentation for bidding, permits, and construction. Participate in design reviews and workshops to validate concepts. Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors. Collaborate with project teams to align scope, timelines, and milestones. Maintain accurate system documentation, including as-builts and configuration records. Support onboarding of new employees. OPERATE AS ONE TEAM : Build strong relationships with other departments within Beacon. JOB QUALIFICATIONS : In-depth understanding of physical security systems and related technologies. Familiarity with industry standards such as UL 294, NFPA 731, NEC, ADA, and NIST. Knowledge of low-voltage systems and building construction practices. Experience with security platforms like Lenel, Avigilon, or Software House is preferred. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar software. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. Collaborative mindset and adaptability to office and job site environments. Educational background in electrical or security engineering, or equivalent experience. 37+ years of relevant experience and certifications in low-voltage systems. WORK ENVIRONMENT : Hybrid role post-onboarding; in-office three days a week, with flexibility for transfer to various job sites. Work environments include offices, medical, educational facilities, or construction sites with environmental factors like noise and dust. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, and manual dexterity required. Occasional lifting up to fifty pounds.
