To provide day-to-day liaison between occupants of assigned buildings and Facilities Management. To process and complete a wide range of multi-trade work orders. To be responsible for multiple buildings with unique needs, sophisticated mechanical and electrical equipment, laboratory and research areas, and high visibility buildings. The incumbent is generally responsible for 200,000 or more maintainable gross square footage.
Physical Demands:
Works around fixed machinery; works from ladders and scaffolding; manipulates heavy equipment and exerts force up to 70 pounds; works in hazardous or irritating environments; wears and works in personal protective equipment. Assigned work hours are 7:00 A.M.-3:30 P.M. Mon.-Fri. Incumbent is considered an Essential Employee; subject to a 24-hour day, 7-day week span of operation.
Personal hand tools are not required for this position. If brought to the job, the University is not responsible for the repair or replacement of lost, stolen or damaged personal property.
Licenses/ Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a Class C Driver’s license or equivalent valid in the State of Maryland with fewer than 6 points.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION: HS/GED EXPERIENCE: Five years progressively responsible experience in the trade(s) where assigned to include at least two years in a lead or supervisory capacity. OTHER: REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the methods and techniques of the trade(s) where assigned; of the OSHA regulations related to the trade(s) area. Thorough knowledge of and skill in the practical application of electronics, hydraulics, and mechanics as used in maintenance work; of basic mathematics including area, volume, weights and the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions; of the care and storage of equipment and supplies used in the area where assigned. General knowledge of the principles of supervision in the maintenance trades. Skill in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment of the trade(s) where assigned. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, drawings, and specifications; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to lead and train skilled and unskilled employees in assigned trade(s) work; to prepare summaries and reports; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from ladders and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment. OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. A non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license valid in the Stateof Maryland may be required. Employees in this job class may be required to be trained to work with asbestos. Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in building systems and proper repair methods and techniques in several trades including electrical, plumbing and HVAC. -Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA & MOSH regulations related multiple trades. -Thorough knowledge of basic mathematics and its practical application. -Thorough knowledge of care and storage of equipment and supplies. -General knowledge of the principles of supervision in the maintenance trades. -Skill in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment. -Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, drawings, and specifications. -Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and to use a personal computer for basic communications. -Ability to prepare summaries and reports. -Ability to lead and train skilled and unskilled employees.
