Job Description Position Overview: The Livestock Coordinator plays a key role in maintaining the well-being of the horses and other livestock within the shelter setting. This position involves hands-on care, including feeding, grooming, stall cleaning, and ensuring the animal's environment is clean, safe, and comfortable. This position works closely with the facilities team to provide daily care and support for the shelter's residents and assists with the overall maintenance of shelter facilities. Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

Feed and water animals according to set schedules and specific dietary needs. Groom horses, including brushing, mane and tail care, hoof inspection, and bathing. Clean and maintain stalls, paddocks, and other animal housing areas Observe animals daily for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and report findings to the livestock manager or veterinarian. Clean and disinfect equipment (buckets, tack, halters, lead ropes, etc.) and ensure proper storage Assist in administering basic medications or treatments as directed by the livestock manager or veterinary professionals. Assist with routine veterinary checks (e.g., vaccines, dental care) and help restrain animals as needed. Maintain a clean and organized environment throughout the shelter, including barn areas, feeding rooms, and paddocks. Ensure that hay, bedding, and other supplies are stocked and well-organized. Help with minor repairs to fences, stalls, and other infrastructure as needed. Maintain a clean and organized environment throughout the shelter, including barn areas, feeding rooms, and paddocks. Supervision Received: Work under the general direction of the Livestock Manager and receive general supervision. Work independently to prioritize and complete assigned tasks.

Qualifications & Skills: Ability to safely handle horses of various temperaments, including those with special needs or behavioral issues. Basic knowledge of large animal care, health, and behavior Basic knowledge of equine care, health, and behavior. Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills A passion for animals and their care, cheerful, friendly, positive, team-oriented attitude Demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities, project management, and meeting deadlines; strong planning and organizational skills. Able to work with others to accomplish goals Reliable, punctual, dependable Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters Remains composed under stress; handles responses to constructive criticism tactfully and delivers on organizational commitments Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives Ability to lift up to 60lbs Comfortable handling animals of all sizes Certification or training in equine care or animal welfare. Knowledge of equine nutrition, behavior, and health issues. Familiarity with stable equipment and general maintenance tasks
