Position Overview:
As a Fiber Tech Apprentice, you play a crucial role in the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks. You are responsible for various tasks, including building, prepping, and splicing fiber. Additionally, you’re responsible for interpreting construction drawings and understanding design prints\maps, fiber optic splice schematics and work orders. Your attention to detail, technical skills, and commitment to safety contributes to the successful implementation of fiber optic projects and the success of B Robinson inc.
The apprentice will work under the guidance of experienced technicians to learn and perform a range of tasks associated with fiber optic installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and teamwork. As a short-term training position, the Fiber Tech Apprentice is expected to demonstrate proficiency in all responsibilities of a Fiber Tech 1 within six months.
This is an Hourly Non-Exempt position that reports to the Fiber Splicing Manager or Construction Manager depending on the area assigned. Requirements: Role responsibilities: Meet customer requirements for work quality and project completion timeliness Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Assist in the repair, maintenance, and installation of fiber optic cables under the guidance of experienced technicians. Learn to identify and troubleshoot issues with fiber optic networks. Assist in splicing and terminating fiber optic cables according to industry standards. Safely handle tools, equipment, and materials, including loading and unloading as required. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors. Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge in fiber optic technology. Be available 24/7 during scheduled Bi-weekly on-call rotation. Present a professional image for the company Protect company assets and mitigate risks Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area, equipment, and tools Timely completion of required documentation Punctuality and a strong work ethic to ensure project timelines are met. Minimum Qualifications : High school diploma or equivalent. Basic understanding of telecommunications and fiber optic technology. Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity. Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions. Willingness to learn and take direction from senior technicians. Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team. Valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications: Completion of a vocational program in telecommunications or related fields. Previous experience in a construction or technical field. Familiarity with basic hand tools and test equipment. Understanding of safety protocols and procedures. Eagerness to obtain relevant certifications in fiber optic splicing and installation.
