Job Title: Surgical Assistant Location: Rochester, MN/ WI Shift: 5x8 Days (Mon-Fri, 10-hour shifts, 7 and 9 AM) Contract Duration: 37 Weeks Weekly Gross: $2200 Weekly Gross

Job Summary – Surgical Assistant The Surgical Assistant (SA) provides critical support to surgeons and physicians during operative procedures across a wide range of surgical specialties. The SA demonstrates advanced knowledge of human surgical anatomy, surgical techniques, aseptic principles, and perioperative standards. This role requires strong technical proficiency in suturing, handling surgical instruments, and positioning patients for surgery. The Surgical Assistant anticipates the needs of the surgeon and helps ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care within a multidisciplinary perioperative environment. Clinical coverage may include general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, spine, ENT/radical neck, gynecology, urology, cardiovascular, thoracic, vascular, trauma, plastics, colorectal, and pediatric surgery.

Roles and Responsibilities -Assist the surgeon/physician as the first assistant during operative procedures. Demonstrate expert understanding of surgical anatomy, procedural steps, and intraoperative techniques. -Perform advanced technical functions such as suturing, wound closure, hemostasis, and proper use of surgical instruments. -Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping under aseptic guidelines. -Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments and supplies efficiently and safely. -Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique and infection prevention standards. -Collaborate closely with the surgical team to maintain smooth workflow and patient safety. -Ensure accurate count of instruments, sponges, and supplies when applicable. -Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiology staff, and other team members. -Adapt to rapidly changing clinical situations and respond appropriately to intraoperative emergencies. -Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and perioperative policy compliance. -Assist with postoperative patient care tasks as delegated.

Required Skills and Qualifications -Demonstrated competency in surgical assisting techniques, instrumentation, and sterile practices. -Ability to adapt to unpredictable and fast-paced perioperative environments. -Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, empathetically, and professionally. -Patient-centered and customer-focused communication style. -Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. -Strong critical thinking, situational awareness, and ability to anticipate surgical needs.

Preferred Certifications: -Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) – National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) -Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

Education Requirements -Graduate of an accredited Surgical Assistant Program. -Relevant operating room experience within the past three (3) years. -Licensure & Certification Requirements -Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Travelers must have: -BLS -CSA or CSFA certification
