The Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) assesses the relevance, efficacy, and efficiency of World Bank Group policies, programs, and activities, enhancing accountability and learning to inform new directions, policies, and strategies. IEG Is Directly Responsible For

Assessing whether the World Bank Group institutions’ operational policies and programs produce expected results. Incorporating evaluations into recommendations to improve development effectiveness. Appraising institutions’ self‑evaluations and attesting to their adequacy. Reporting to boards on actions taken and measures to improve the evaluation system. Disseminating findings to strengthen learning and accountability. Encouraging developing member countries to build effective M&E capacities. Collaborating with partners to foster harmonization and capacity development. IEG Operational Departments

IEG is led by the Director General, Evaluation, and is organized into two departments: Finance, Private Sector, Sustainable Development and Infrastructure (IEGSP) and Human Development and Economic Growth (IEGHE). IEGSP comprises IEG Infrastructure and Digital, IEG Private Sector Development, and IEG Planet (IEGPL), which covers planet sectors such as agriculture, environment, climate, and water across all WBG institutions. Duties And Accountabilities

The Senior Evaluation Officer in IEGPL reports to the Unit Manager and is a strong evaluator with extensive experience in planet sectors. Responsibilities include: Design, implement, and disseminate IEG evaluations, including thematic and cluster evaluations. Lead or co‑lead micro‑reviews and their coordination. Participate in learning engagement and outreach activities. Provide advice and technical insight to the IEGPL manager and staff. Oversee work and coach junior staff, ensuring quality assurance. Contribute to departmental activities and support IEG’s mission. Selection Criteria

Master’s or PhD in a relevant field such as planet sectors, economics, or evaluation. At least 8 years of relevant experience in operational, analytical, or policy roles. Strong familiarity with WBG, IFC, and MIGA work. Extensive experience designing and delivering complex evaluations. Deep experience in quantitative (econometric) and qualitative (cross‑case) methods. Excellent communication and influencing skills. Diplomatic and negotiation skills with strong personal maturity. Practical understanding of engaging operational teams. Teamwork and interpersonal skills for cross‑organizational collaboration. Ability to coach and mentor junior staff. Experience managing complex evaluation projects on time and budget. Highly organized and able to multitask. Some familiarity with AI tools in research. Willingness to travel to developing countries. WBG Culture Attributes
