Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) – Emergency Department Night Shift Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, Registered Nurses diagnose and treat patients in emergency situations, quickly recognizing life‑threatening problems and providing critical care on the spot.

Duties

Assess patient condition and coordinate nursing care with other health disciplines.

Develop a written individualized care plan and discharge planning.

Administer direct care, medications, and infection control practices.

Maintain accurate documentation of patient teaching and family understanding.

Communicate changes in patient condition to Charge RN/Clinician.

Participate in unit or hospital‑based quality assurance activities.

Working Conditions The role may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids, and unpredictable emergency situations. Occasional irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Classified by OSHA as Category 1.

Qualifications

RN license in New York State (required).

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

One year of previous hospital acute care experience preferred (ED experience with ACLS, PALS, TNCC).

Pre‑Employment Requirements

Pre‑employment physical examination with medical clearance.

Electronic reference check with three professional references.

4‑panel drug screen.

Regulatory pre‑employment screenings and NY State license(s)/certificate(s) submission.
