Position Overview Kiewit Bridge & Marine is seeking a District Survey Manager
to lead and oversee all surveying operations across complex infrastructure projects. This role is critical to ensuring precision, safety, and efficiency in the execution of large-scale infrastructure work, including piers, wharfs, causeways, cable-stayed bridges, and other heavy civil structures. Your responsibilities include overseeing contractual requirements, design model review and field survey operations, and should plan to spend around 30% of your time in the field observing and instructing the survey operations across our portfolio of projects within the Bridge & Marine District.

Responsibilities
Understand Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) requirements for each project including control networks, layout procedures, and QA/QC protocols. Determine which specific surveys are required for the design, as-built, monumentation and layout.
Ensure the accuracy of files prior to being used for survey field calculations. Coordinate with the designer the file types required for survey operations.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to support construction activities with accurate and timely survey data. Establish regular meetings with the designer to review and plan for design survey requests and design model file progression.
Manage staffing of the survey department along with personnel and equipment schedules.
Establish a project survey plan and outline specific field and office procedures.
Work with your project team to understand project objectives, allocated budgets, goals, schedules, and timeframes. Lead and manage survey teams across projects, ensuring consistent quality and adherance to Kiewit standards.
Oversee the operation with periodic reviews of record keeping, field procedures and survey audits to ensure that all work is performed in an efficient and professional manner.
Maintain the official set of plans for the survey department. Manage information flow from field to office and prepare clear, concise, and accurate field notes, records, and calculations.
Oversee the use and maintenance of advanced survey equipment (e.g., GPS, total stations, laser scanners, hydrographic systems).
Train and mentor field surveyors and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Ability to travel and relocate needed
PLS License in a state we perform work is preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
10+ years’ experience in Construction Survey, Dimensional Control, Industrial Measurement, or a related field, including experience supporting either bridge or marine-related projects
Self-starter with the ability to set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality and productivity
Proficiency in survey software (e.g., Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leica Infinity) and data management systems
Strong understanding of geodetic principles, construction layout, and hydrographic surveying
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong work ethic with the ability to work individually and as a team
Other Requirements:
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
