Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia as a nationally recognized entity of clinical, educational and research excellence. The Division is dedicated to improving the quality of children's lives through prevention, control and cure of cancer and blood disorders.
Chief purpose of this position
We are seeking candidates for a position which will provide a mix of direct clinical care, clinical administrative and QA/QI activities, didactic and bedside teaching for students, residents and fellows, and have a strong research initiative. Will serve as the administrative head of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
Responsibilities:
Teaching: Bedside teaching of residents, students, and fellows while on clinical service. Shared responsibility for divisional didactic instruction of residents, students and fellows.
Research: Continued development of scholarly activity. Serve as a mentor to researchers in division and department when appropriate.
Service: Participation in the community and school committees when appropriate.
Clinical: Host regular ambulatory clinics, as appropriate. Shares in negotiated amount of inpatient services including night and weekend coverage.
Administrative: Serve as administrative leader for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
MD/DO degree; Board certification required
Eligible for medical license in Virginia
Strong research background
Previous experience as a program director or division head or equivalent experience
Experience in an academic medical center
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
