What You Will Do Lead a cross‑functional team of engineers and shape the future of our consumer experiences that power off‑pavement mobile apps. This role reports to the Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities
Make great engineers better: support teammates with goal‑setting, professional development, and mentoring.
Make great software: work with your team and multiple teams to deliver maintainable, high‑quality, customer‑focused products; lead design, development, testing, deployment, and operations.
Build great teams: collaborate with peers to hire smart, creative, kind engineers and managers; evaluate manager candidates as part of our broader hiring process.
Collaborate: manage dependencies, facilitate partnerships, and drive aligned outcomes with Product, Product Design, and stakeholders.
Leadership: drive projects, influence long‑term technical strategy, and guide innovation efforts.
Translate business strategy into clear engineering direction; help the team understand the "why" behind the roadmap.
Communicate: over‑communicate, coordinate goals, and set ambitious but attainable plans.
What You'll Bring
At least 5 years of experience managing software engineers.
Proven ability to lead multi‑platform teams (iOS, Android, Web, Backend) building customer‑facing products at scale.
Track record of delivering solutions that enable product and engineering teams.
Experience leading teams through ambiguous, fast‑changing product stages and providing structure without slowing pace.
Improved engineering velocity, quality, and observability across teams; comfortable with workflows, processes, and metrics.
Connection between engineering work and business goals; balance customer value, quality, and impact.
Comfortable using AI‑assisted tools to improve productivity and code quality.
Strong communication with executives and non‑technical leaders.
Strong computer science foundation.
Team‑player mindset and fun to work with.
Ability to work in ambiguous environments and various product lifecycle stages.

Familiarity with mapping or navigation technologies.
Experience designing or leading complex client or server‑side architectures for high‑volume consumer‑facing products; distributed systems, APIs, or platform components.

BS or MS in computer science or related field or equivalent experience.
Where You'll Work This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, Basecamp, or Connection Hub.
Corporate Offices: Missoula and Bozeman, Montana.
Basecamps: virtual workforce communities in Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; Seattle, WA.
Connection Hubs: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Charlotte, NC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.
How You'll Be Compensated Salary range: $150,000 to $188,000 upon hire, varying by experience and skills. Full‑time employees are eligible for common share options and potential annual bonus of 10% based on performance.
