Massachusetts General Hospital
Physician-Scientist || Instructor in Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital || POHER Board Member
The Bloom Lab in the Infectious Diseases Division at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard researches the human vaginal microbiome and metabolome and their effects on health and disease. Our studies seek to elucidate how the microbiome influences risk and pathogenesis of conditions including bacterial vaginosis, HPV, cervical cancer, sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy outcomes. Collaborating with researchers from around the world, we perform studies ranging from basic laboratory and bioinformatic investigations of bacteriologic and immunologic mechanisms through translational analysis of samples and data from clinical trials devoted to advancing women’s health.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site position located in the Greater Boston area for a Postdoctoral Researcher. The position involves designing and conducting cutting‑edge research projects into microbiology, metabolomics and metabolic mechanisms, and mechanisms of cervicovaginal disease, analyzing experimental and computational data, and collaborating with a diverse, multidisciplinary team including colleagues in the United States and across Africa. Key responsibilities include producing high‑quality publications, assisting with grant applications, and guiding junior researchers or students through teaching and mentorship.
Qualifications
Strong laboratory skills in bacteriology and/or metabolomics. Experience in anaerobic bacteriology and eukaryotic cell culture is a plus.
Expertise in designing and conducting experiments and analyzing data as evidenced by a strong publication record.
Competency in bioinformatic analysis of bacterial genomics and/or metagenomics and other complex datasets.
