Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate all laboratory activities within the Emergency Department, including specimen collection, processing, and testing.
Perform bench work 1–2 days per week, maintaining technical proficiency in limited hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, POCT, and emergency blood product release.
Maintain adequate inventory of reagents, supplies, and blood products.
Ensure compliance with CAP and state regulations; monitor quality control, proficiency testing, and instrument maintenance.
Implement safety protocols and infection control measures.
Schedule and supervise laboratory personnel, providing training, competency assessments, and ongoing education.
Serve as primary point of contact for ED physicians and nursing staff regarding laboratory services; coordinate with main laboratory for confirmatory testing and specialized procedures.
Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Oversee emergency release of blood products and ensure readiness for disaster situations.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of an approved program in Medical Technology or Bachelor’s Degree in one of the biologic, chemical, or physical sciences.
Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Medical Technologist in a hospital setting.
Licensure
Must be licensed as a Medical Technologist in the State of Florida in the area(s) supervised; hold Florida Supervisor’s license in the area(s) supervised or be eligible for supervisory licensure within two years.
National certification preferred (ASCP, HEW, NCA, ASMT, AAB or equivalent).
