Position Summary Please note: This is a pool, as‑needed position with no guarantee of hours. Conduct routine and complex laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease, interpretation of test results, instrument operation, and supporting clients in accessing laboratory services. Oversee daily laboratory practices for the assigned lab section: procedure documentation, quality assurance, quality control monitoring, instrument maintenance, competency and proficiency programs, staff training, and preparing for certification, licensure and accreditation processes.
Reporting Laboratory Manager
Essential Functions
Able to analyze and troubleshoot chemical and biological reactions to solve complex pre‑analytical, analytical and post‑analytical problems.
Effectively and efficiently report analyzed data to lab managers, MLS technical consultants, providers and pathologists.
Assess competency of MLT and MLS employees.
Assist MLS Technical Consultants in providing effective training to new employees and students.
Perform standard laboratory analyses accurately according to published procedures and turnaround times.
Validate results, including recognizing questionable results, investigating causes of questionable results, and taking appropriate action regarding release of test results to customers.
Communicate written and verbal information to customers regarding appropriate specimen collection, transport and test methodology; interpret test results; handle client service issues at all levels courteously and effectively with a customer focus.
Interpret, initiate, and comply with regulatory guidelines as required by regulatory agencies.
Display competency in Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Blood Banking, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Urinalysis.
Utilize critical thinking for problem solving.
Multitask effectively and accurately in a stressful environment.
Maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
Other duties as assigned.
Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
Qualifications – Required
A bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent education.
Certification as MLS (ASCP), or MT (ASCP), or equivalent.
Desired Qualifications
Two years of experience as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
