Prevailing Wage Field Technician

to join our in-house

Habitat Restoration Team

for our

San Diego, CA

office. Our Team tackles a wide variety of projects that involve the restoration of various types of habitats. Our technicians are trained, overseen, and work in the field side‑by‑side with restoration ecologists and biologists, in the physical implementation of habitat restoration. Restoration Landscape Technicians are the on the ground, hands‑on, workforce, that actively transform highly disturbed areas into functional native habitat for various sensitive plant and animal species. The ideal candidate will have the interest and capacity to perform labor in various habitats daily. Candidates should be ready and willing to expand their knowledge of native and sensitive plant and animal species, in order to support our various projects and project needs.

Your Impact

Assist with site preparation, including earthwork such as shoveling, raking, and installation of erosion control devices

Assist in the installation and removal of temporary irrigation systems

Facilitate landscaping by hand planting container plants, distributing seed, and providing weed control

Use hand and power tools for weeding and restoration work tasks

Operate weeding equipment (weed whippers, etc.)

Pesticide application

Loading and unloading of restoration materials

Possess the knowledge or be willing to learn to identify native plants and invasive weeds

Follow instruction from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks

Who You Are Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

5+ years of relevant experience with landscaping, manual labor, power tool use, and medium to heavy equipment use

Must have a current valid driver’s license

Must be legally able to work in the United States

Ability to obtain access credentials to federal military installations (i.e., no disqualifying record)

Must have no prior felony convictions

Must be able to pass a physical and be medically able to wear a tight‑fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam

Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (stoop, stand, bend, and walk for long periods of time, lift heavy loads of up to 40 pounds consistently, etc.) and work on uneven and/or difficult terrain in various weather conditions

Familiarity with power tools and machinery is desired, but not required

Ability or willingness to learn to recognize common non‑native invasive plant species (weeds) and distinguish them from native plants

Possession of a Qualified Applicators License or Certificate is highly desired, but not required

Ability to work a varied schedule (some Saturdays included), in varied weather conditions

Good communications skills

Ability to work as part of a team

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $30.10–$46.66

Employees hourly rate may increase if/when they perform services that are covered by California's Prevailing Wage Laws on public sector projects or covered by other applicable wage and hour laws.

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
