The Gulf of America (GoA) Region is seeking an experienced engineer capable of delivering a high level of performance in the critical role of Senior Instrument & Controls Engineer within the Productions and Operations (P&O) organization. The role will provide engineering expertise for deepwater production facilities and strong technical leadership in instrumentation, control system equipment, safety, and telecommunications.
Key Accountabilities
Provide technical assistance to Operations to resolve facility problems related to instrumentation, controls, safety systems, fire and gas, digital security, telecommunications, and measurement.
Serve as asset barrier owner for Basic Process Control Systems, Safety Instrumented Systems, Alarm and Operator Response, and Fire & Gas Detection; monitor barrier health and support gap‑closure actions.
Implement pragmatic solutions for risk management, production efficiency, maintenance, defect elimination, and standardisation related to instrumented protective systems, process controls, and alarms.
Lead or support 5‑why analysis, root cause failure analysis (RCFA), inspection‑result analysis, and the development and implementation of associated recommendations.
Lead or provide technical support to Management‑of‑Change processes (e.g., redline, risk assessment, regulatory approval, automation work pack) from an I&C perspective.
Develop and update the technical content of Equipment Strategies based on specifications, performance feedback, and maintenance history reviews.
Align inspection, testing, maintenance, and condition‑monitoring tasks in SAP with the technical intent of Equipment Strategies.
Perform reliability analysis for instrument and control equipment, identifying gaps and implementing corrective plans; provide I&C expertise for regional action delivery.
Provide I&C expertise for hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety incident investigations (IRIS).
Ensure cyber‑security risk controls are in place for asset automation systems and that associated barriers are proactively managed.
Coordinate onshore and offshore main automation and instrumentation contractors to ensure high‑quality systems and safe, cost‑effective work‑pack execution.
Record relevant take‑aways in shared learning systems, incorporate them into local activities, and raise high‑priority lessons.
Essential Experience And Job Requirements
Minimum 10 years of industry experience; upstream oil/gas, refining and/or petrochemical experience desired; offshore deepwater experience a plus.
Extensive experience with instrumentation and controls in process industry, including design, installation, and calibration of pressure, temperature & flow sensors, fire and gas, level sensing, and valve actuation.
Ability to read, review, redline and create P&IDs, loop diagrams, datasheets, cause‑and‑effect drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Experience with ladder logic and functional block programming.
Experience in root‑cause failure analysis for instruments and/or control equipment.
Experience with Management‑of‑Change principles and processes.
Experience with functional safety lifecycles (e.g., HAZOP/LOPA, SIL verification, Safety Requirements Specification) and, preferably, functional‑safety certification.
Technical knowledge of electrical/electronic equipment in hazardous areas.
Permit to work in the USA and ability to travel offshore.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
