Senior Electrical Engineer – Mission Critical
Join us as a Senior Electrical Engineer on the ARCO/Murray Engineering (AME) design team, based in Downers Grove, Illinois. You will guide the full electrical scope and lead the development of electrical system designs and power solutions for data center projects.
Responsibilities
Prepare detailed preliminary electrical designs for design/build projects.
Design and specify power systems, including load calculations, one‑line diagrams, equipment sizing, lighting photometry, and system controls.
Provide electrical design direction and collaborate with national network of design consultants.
Perform arc‑flash and coordination studies using SKM Power‑Tools.
Work with team to procure building switchgear, generators, UPS, and other power components.
Support power solutions team in delivering turnkey power projects and assist in business‑development activities.
Conduct value‑engineering reviews and provide alternative design options to maximize cost savings.
Interface with clients, contractors, and vendors on technical issues as the electrical expert.
Day in the Life
Prepare detailed preliminary electrical designs in pursuit of design/build projects across several project types.
Design and specify power systems including load calculations, one‑line diagrams, equipment sizing and selection, equipment layouts, lighting photometric calculations, and associated system controls for various projects.
Provide electrical design direction projects and work with national network of design consultants to help deliver projects.
Perform arc‑flash and coordination studies using SKM power‑tools.
Work as an integral part of team procuring building switchgear, generators, UPS, and other power components directly from suppliers.
Play a key role as part of the Power Solutions team delivering turnkey power solutions to our clients, including assisting in business‑development activities by finding solutions to complex projects.
Provide value engineering reviews and alternate design options in order to maximize cost savings and better execute projects.
Interface with clients, contractors, and vendors on technical issues as electrical expert.
Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
Qualifications
BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
5–15 years of electrical engineering/design experience supporting data center projects.
BIM experience preferred (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks).
Familiarity with ETAP, SKM, and other electrical engineering software.
Strong planning, organization, and multi‑task management skills.
Preferred experience working for an electrical engineering design consultancy.
Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred; ARCO/Murray will support pursuit of licensure (EIT/PE).
Experience creating design spreadsheets or coding scripts is a plus.
