Job Description The
Bridge Engineer
will play a key role in performing and overseeing technical designs, developing projects from conceptual to final design, preparing contract plans and documents, and mentoring junior staff. While the primary focus is bridge engineering, the position also involves building assignments related to public works structures such as wastewater treatment plant structures, pump stations, salt sheds, etc. If you are passionate about structural engineering and eager to contribute to impactful projects, we encourage you to apply.
Location and Flexibility Preferred location is BETA’s Norwood office. Candidates should be flexible to work from our other office locations. BETA offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.
Responsibilities
Assist in and lead the preparation of bridge and building design documents, including design calculations, AutoCAD plans, specifications, and quantities.
Prepare formal reports.
Occasionally take part as a member of a field crew on structural inspections.
Supervise, coordinate, and mentor junior staff.
Collaborate across internal disciplines and office locations.

Required Experience/Skills
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
Massachusetts or Rhode Island Professional Engineer (PE) License.
7 to 12 years of bridge engineering experience.
Bridge design experience required.
MassDOT design experience required.
Strong background in structural analysis and theory.
Strong technical and critical thinking skills with excellent attention to detail.
Strong AutoCAD skills.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Enthusiasm to learn and willingness to take on responsibility.
Willingness to work in a collaborative team environment.
Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Must be able to perform field work in hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow).
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Experience/Skills
Finite element analysis skills.
Building experience.
RIDOT experience.
