Position Overview

At Kiewit, one of our guiding principles on every project and in every office is, “Nobody Gets Hurt.” We’re currently looking for a Senior Safety Specialist who will create, support, and audit our programs that reinforce our commitment to safety. As a Senior Safety Specialist, you will report to the Project Safety Manager and will primarily implement and support the Site Specific Safety Plan in the field. You will assist with contract application, client safety expectations, Kiewit Corporate Safety Manual, Corporate Crane Procedures Manual, District Standards, and all applicable laws. You will also verify execution of work, problem‑solve with operations and craft, assist with corrective measures, and provide resources to correct and maintain solutions. Responsibilities

Managing the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety‑oriented approach to work. Compiling, analyzing, and interpreting occupational illness and accident statistical data to recommend process and product safety features that reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological hazards. Routinely inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure regulation compliance. Monitoring the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coaching employees on correct behaviors when observed. Developing environmental health and safety training materials, including manuals, brochures, and PowerPoint presentations. Creating a paperwork management system to track all safety training initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors. Interpreting safety regulations for the project. Coordinating and presenting safety training to support client requirements such as new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout, and other programs. Interfacing with OSHA (provincial or federal) officials/inspectors during site visits. Qualifications

Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or related field (experience may substitute). CSP certification desirable. 3 years of experience managing construction projects. Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping, and injury management. Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong organizational, time‑management, written, and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and strong work ethic. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Professional interaction with all levels of management, handling a diversified workload efficiently. CPR/First Aid, EMT, and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications preferred. Ability to access all points of a construction site in varying climates and environments. Capable of regularly sitting, standing, walking, talking, listening, and occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds. Willingness to relocate and travel where required. Other Requirements
