Overview
We are seeking a Senior or Principal SCADA Engineer to join our Building Automation team and lead the design and implementation of modern, web-based building management solutions using Ignition, with a strong focus on the Perspective module. This role blends deep SCADA/BMS expertise with front-end engineering and will play a key role in shaping the future of our web technology stack for building automation.
You will work closely with the SCADA Development Manager, controls engineers, and cross‑functional stakeholders to deliver high‑quality operator and management interfaces for HVAC, lighting, metering, energy, and other critical building systems. Depending on experience and impact, this role may be hired at either the Senior or Principal level.
Key Responsibilities
Design, configure, and deploy SCADA/BMS solutions using Ignition, with emphasis on the Perspective module
Lead front‑end development of responsive dashboards, floor plans, equipment views, alarms, trends, and mobile‑friendly interfaces
Establish UI/UX standards, style guides, and reusable component libraries to ensure consistency and scalability
Evaluate and recommend front‑end and back‑end technologies to support the long‑term evolution of the SCADA/BMS platform
Define best practices for integrating Ignition with external systems (REST APIs, authentication, data services, enterprise or cloud platforms)
Configure alarming, historian logging, reporting, and analytics to support operations, energy optimization, and fault detection
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, and IT/OT teams to design secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions
Troubleshoot issues across the Ignition stack, BAS networks, and integrations; perform root‑cause analysis and implement long‑term fixes
Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and training materials
Principal level: provide technical leadership across projects, define overall Ignition/UI architecture, review designs, and mentor engineers
Travel as needed up to 75% is required for this role.
Required Qualifications Experience & Technical Foundation
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of SCADA/BAS experience (Senior) or 7+ years (Principal) in production environments
Strong hands‑on experience with Ignition Perspective, including project architecture, gateway configuration, tags, scripting, alarms, and security
Proficiency with Ignition scripting (Python/Power Script) and SQL for logic, data transformation, and integrations
Required Qualifications Front‑End & Web Development
Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript concepts, including responsive and component‑based UI design
Experience building or contributing to web‑based, data‑driven, or real‑time user interfaces
Experience with at least one modern application or web framework (Java, JavaScript, or similar ecosystems)
Ability to evaluate technology trade‑offs and make recommendations balancing performance, security, and maintainability
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including version control, code reviews, testing, and structured deployments
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with building automation systems, HVAC controls, energy management, or smart buildings
Experience with large or multi‑site Ignition deployments and distributed architectures
Familiarity with OT cybersecurity practices for building automation or critical infrastructure
Experience integrating MQTT, REST APIs or IIoT platforms with Ignition or other SCADA systems
Prior experience mentoring engineers or serving as a technical lead (especially for Principal level)
Level Expectations Senior SCADA Engineer Building Automation
Owns Ignition‑based projects from design through deployment and support
Leads Perspective UI development within established standards
Provides guidance to peers and contributes to design reviews and best practices
Principal SCADA Engineer Building Automation
Owns SCADA/BMS visualization strategy across programs or portfolios
Defines platform‑wide architecture, UI patterns, and technology standards
Acts as a technical leader and partner to the SCADA Development Manager
Compensation & Benefits
Senior SCADA Engineer Front‑End: $117,000 $138,000
Principal SCADA Engineer Front‑End: $135,000 $145,000
