Job Title Project Engineer – Houston, TX (Office / Field, Full-Time)
Job Description As a Project Engineer you will initially support the estimating team during the preconstruction phase of the project.
Estimator Key Responsibilities
Read and understand plans and specifications
Prepare a thorough take‑off of quantities for scopes of work from both 2D and 3D project plans and models
Review trade partner pricing and prepare a comprehensive evaluation of trade partner proposals, scope risks and opportunities on a proposal summary
Understand trade partner/supplier relationships to support the success of the project
Clearly communicate with trade partners and present risks and scope
Demonstrate the ability to be organized and detail oriented
Provide document control keep the current set of design documents up to date with all current information
Provide communications for preconstruction activities with subcontractors related to pricing and bidding procedures
Assist in preparation of Bid Package documentation
Coordinate bidder solicitations
Assist and coordinate with design team all design and constructability issues
Participate in trend estimating process
Project Engineer Transition Once the preconstruction phase ends, this role will transition to a Project Engineer.
Project Engineer Key Responsibilities
Responsible for all on‑site project administration and for management of the office engineers and jobsite administrator
Assist the project manager and superintendents as follows:
Accumulate all necessary data and prepare the monthly owner pay applications
Discover and resolve interface conflicts between the company and trade partners, as well as among trade partners
Assist the company's field supervisors on interpretation of drawings, specifications, RFIs and questions for and from the architect/engineer
Develop/manage the cost control and labor recap in conjunction with the project manager and project superintendent
Process and estimate all potential change orders and requests for information
Assist in development and management of the project schedule
Assist with engineering details and special design
Track and report on the progress of the project
Assist with production analysis studies
Manage the timely acquisition of materials and equipment and field‑initiated purchasing
Run weekly owner/architect/contractor meetings and maintain meeting minutes
Assist in monthly margin analysis
Participate in jobsite safety meetings, weekly safety audits, etc
Facilitate the quality control plan and participate in preparatory meetings, initial inspections, follow‑up inspections, etc
Assist in interpretation of the BIM and VDC specifications
Qualifications Basic Requirements
B.S. in Civil, Architectural or Construction Management
3-6 years of relevant construction management experience
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in estimating on large commercial construction projects
Possess good communications skills and be detail oriented
Able to survey building specialties, carpentry, millwork, and some finishes
Minor pricing studies (Building Specialties, Rough Carpentry)
Must have QC (Quality Control) experience
