Principal Engineer - Prince William County
Join Prince William County Public Works, Environmental Management Division as a Principal Engineer. The role involves conducting senior-level reviews of land development plans, focusing on grading, erosion & sediment control, storm drainage, floodplain studies, and stormwater management.
Responsibilities
Conduct senior-level reviews of land development plans with emphasis on grading, erosion & sediment control, storm drainage, floodplain studies, and stormwater management.
Prepare and review grading and storm drainage designs.
Perform hydraulic and hydrologic studies using software applications.
Review stormwater maintenance agreements and easements.
Lead floodplain studies and best management practices for stormwater management.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
Minimum 3 years of experience designing and/or reviewing land development plans for civil engineering.
Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in grading, storm drainage, and stormwater management designs.
Experience with erosion & sediment control plans.
Experience with stormwater management facilities and BMPs.
Experience conducting or reviewing floodplain studies.
Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic studies.
Professional Engineer License or eligibility to obtain one within the first year.
Applicable Virginia Certifications in Stormwater Management (SWM) and Erosion & Sediment Control (E&S) within the initial year.
Preferences
Degree in civil engineering or related field.
Professional Engineer License.
3+ years of experience in the above areas.
Special Requirements
Hold or obtain a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license within the first year.
Acquire applicable Virginia Certifications in Stormwater Management (SWM) and Erosion & Sediment Control (E&S) within the first year.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm or 8:30 am–5:00 pm. Telework is not available.
Salary and Benefits Hiring Salary Range: $91,162.50 – $152,509.50 annually.
$5,000 sign‑on bonus: $2,500 after 90 days of employment and $2,500 upon successful completion of probation.
