Pay Range:

$17.25-$35.76 per hour

Essential Job Duties

Maintain proper storage conditions and facilitate accessioning of histology blocks and slides (stained and unstained).

Routine decalcification, processing, embedding, microtomy and re‑embedding of human tissue specimens from clinical trial patients.

Perform routine, special stains and advanced staining assays according to SOPs, protocols, and regulatory requirements.

Perform slide scanning as required.

Handle Special Handling specimens, picking, sorting, accessioning, pre‑scanning and registering into appropriate temperature bins in a timely fashion.

Generate and apply specialized labels, including aliquot and mini labels with client‑specific elements.

Resolve pending specimen discrepancies; retrieve and check specimens against pending list; document discrepancies; notify laboratory management if unresolved.

Prepare workstation, instrument and equipment maintenance schedule; calibrate instruments, verify temperature, log data; document corrective actions; notify management if equipment does not meet specifications.

Use application software, document quality control results, perform proficiency testing surveys with patient specimens.

Monitor reagents, materials and supplies; order, receive, open; implement new reagents; perform lot‑to‑lot comparison; perform inventory checks.

Adhere to all company policies, SOPs, safety, occupational health and universal precautions.

Required Experience

At least 6 months experience in a histology laboratory setting, or histology education with ASCP certification.

Ability to work independently and in a team; dynamic attitude; ability to work under pressure; strong detail orientation; strong verbal and written communication; organizational skills.

Proficiency with software packages (Word, Excel, Visio).

Ability to troubleshoot problems with automated histological equipment.

Candidate must have knowledge of molecular histology techniques including immunohistochemistry and FISH; familiarity with labeling and accessioning procedures and tracking of paraffin tissue blocks and slides.

Education/Qualifications/Certifications and Licenses

Certified Histotechnician by the ASCP Board (HT/HTL) or ASCPi (HT) credential.

Bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry and completion of a 9‑month accredited histotechnician training program.

Bachelor’s degree with same science hours plus one year of histology experience/training within past 5 years under a pathologist certified by the American Board of Pathology.

Associate’s degree in a chemical, physical or biological science plus one year of histology experience/training within past 5 years under eligible pathologist.

Associate’s degree plus successful completion of a 9‑month accredited histotechnician program.

Working Conditions

Repetitive motion, high volume and high production environment.

Exposure to dangerous goods, infectious substances, extreme temperatures, 10 % Neutral Buffered Formalin and other common histology chemicals.

Use of potentially hazardous substances (teratogens, carcinogens) and adherence to LabCorp safety SOPs and Universal Precautions.

Potential rotation schedule (Tuesday‑Saturday or Monday‑Friday); overtime may be required.
